Strategy Workshop

17 January 2012 | Helsinki, Finland

The EUSBSR strategy calls for the development of a “regional adaptation strategy at the level of the Baltic Sea Region” which would provide a useful framework for strengthening co-operation and sharing information across the region on this issue. Baltadapt was developed as a response to this priority in the EUSBSR. Today, Baltadapt partners and networks are on their way developing a Baltic Sea Region-wide climate change adaptation strategy.

Despite the activities in Baltadapt many other initiatives and projects in practice and research, on-going and finalized, deal(t) with climate change adaptation in the Baltic Sea Region. They bring a clear added value to the process of developing a macro-regional adaptation strategy.
However activities and results need better coordination, harmonization and communication in order to enhance individual projects’ results, avoid duplication beyond national boundaries and to increase promotion of the adoption of adaptation measures.

Thus, the BaltAdapt partners SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute), as WP Leader for the BSR Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and CBSS Baltic 21, as responsible for the BSR-wide Policy Forum for Climate Change Adaptation, organised the workshop "Towards a macro-regional climate change adaptation strategy for the BSR – a Strategy workshop". The workshop brought together different projects working on climate change adaptation in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond, representatives from relevant regional networks as well as research experts to discuss the outline and content of a future macro-regional climate change adaptation strategy.
The workshop was held in conjunction with the BaltCICA final conference and the BaltAdapt 3rd partner meeting.
